Mozambique and South Korea have strengthened cooperation in the energy sector through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding focused on knowledge sharing, policy cooperation and the development of projects linked to natural resources and industry.
The agreement was signed on 10 September 2026 during the 8th Ministerial Conference on Economic Cooperation, which brought together representatives from several African countries, international partners, private-sector representatives and South Korean experts.
The memorandum was signed by Mozambique’s Secretary of State for Treasury and Budget, Amílcar Tivane, and South Korea’s Second Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, Huh Chang.
According to the authorities, the agreement is intended to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector and in other strategic areas linked to economic and industrial development.
The partnership also provides for the exchange of technical knowledge and experience that could help Mozambique make better use of its natural resources and promote more sustainable growth.
Mozambique and South Korea have strengthened bilateral cooperation in recent years through several projects in priority sectors.
On the sidelines of the conference, Amílcar Tivane also took part in an event focused on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Infrastructure for Africa’s Transformation.
During the event, South Korea highlighted Artificial Intelligence and digital infrastructure as important tools for boosting productivity, supporting innovation and accelerating economic development.
The use of these technologies is expected to cover areas such as Agriculture, Health, Education, Finance and Public Administration.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to share South Korea’s experience in digital transformation and assess how that knowledge could be adapted to the development priorities of Mozambique and other African countries.
The 8th Ministerial Conference on Economic Cooperation brought together representatives from 45 African countries.
