According to SERNIC, the substance was fentanyl packed in 207 boxes. It had arrived in Mozambique from Brazil and was disguised as skincare products.
The drugs were seized in August at a warehouse at Maputo International Airport after being detected during an inspection carried out in coordination with the relevant authorities.
SERNIC spokesperson Hilário Lole said the investigation led to the identification of a Mozambican national allegedly involved in collecting the shipment.
SERNIC did not provide details on the current legal status of the identified individual, saying only that investigations are continuing.
According to the institution, the operation forms part of efforts to combat drug trafficking and consumption, as well as to prevent Mozambique from being used as a transit route or destination for illegal drugs.
SERNIC considers the case one of the largest drug seizures recorded at Maputo International Airport.
With the destruction of the seized drugs, SERNIC reaffirmed its commitment to working with national and international institutions in the fight against drug trafficking.
