Mozambique’s Attorney-General’s Office (PGR) has received the case involving age falsification detected during the School Sports Games, held from 29 August to 6 September in Inhambane Province.
The case was referred by the National Directorate of Civil Identification (DNIC) through the Gaza Provincial Anti-Corruption Office, after database checks identified irregularities in documents presented by some participants.
According to DNIC spokesperson Gilda Lameque, the investigation found that some identity cards had been issued on the basis of falsified birth certificates.
A total of 31 cases of age falsification were identified during the School Games, 14 of them linked to the Gaza provincial delegation.
The irregularities raised concerns about document verification procedures and the possible responsibility of other individuals involved in registering the athletes.
With the case now referred to the PGR, the matter moves into an investigative phase aimed at determining possible criminal and administrative responsibility linked to the falsified documents.
The School Games brought together students from different provinces across the country and featured several sports disciplines.
Investigators are now expected to determine how the falsified documents were obtained, who may have been involved in issuing or using them, and whether officials linked to provincial delegations or educational institutions played any role.
