Mozambique’s Attorney General’s Office (PGR), through the Central Asset Recovery Office (GCRA), has recorded more than 60 million meticais worth of assets seized since the beginning of 2026.
The seized assets include properties, vehicles, other movable assets and cash linked to criminal proceedings.
The information was disclosed in Maputo by Jorge Chivigi, a public prosecutor at the GCRA responsible for asset-related matters, during a national meeting of institutions involved in fighting corruption, organised crime and recovering assets.
“Speaking of 2026, we have seized assets worth more than 60 million meticais, but we also have many other assets from previous years,” Chivigi said.
According to the prosecutor, assets seized in criminal cases are referred to the GCRA, which then works with the Asset Management Office to ensure their proper administration.
The Asset Management Office is responsible for managing, preserving and, where appropriate, generating value from seized assets while the relevant legal proceedings are underway.
Chivigi said the GCRA has been involved in several cases related to organised and financial crime, including a number of high-profile investigations.
Regarding cases involving Mozambique Airlines (LAM), Chivigi said there are several proceedings, some of which have been closed, while charges have been filed in another case.
In that case, the GCRA worked to identify assets that could eventually be forfeited to the State, depending on the outcome of the legal proceedings.
Regarding the case involving the National Social Security Institute (INSS), Chivigi said he did not have specific information on assets linked to the investigation, adding that the GCRA had not yet received any assets from that case for management purposes.
