José Maria Neves Seeks Second Term as President of Cabo Verde
By Délio Timane 1 min

Cabo Verde’s President, José Maria Neves, has announced his candidacy for the presidential election scheduled for 15 November, seeking a second term in office.

The head of state, first elected in 2021, confirmed the decision during a press conference in the capital, Praia.

“I am a candidate for President of the Republic of Cabo Verde,” José Maria Neves said, adding that he is entering the race with a sense of duty, confidence and a desire to continue serving the country.

The current president said he is approaching the end of his first term with the conviction that he has worked closely with the population and argued for the continuation of the project begun five years ago.

José Maria Neves now returns to the presidential race as Cabo Verde prepares to choose its head of state for the next five years.

The 15 November election will determine whether the current president remains in office or whether the country will have new leadership at the Presidency of the Republic.
