Inhambane: EN1 Road Accident Kills 17 People in Zavala

The accident occurred on National Road Number One (EN1) and involved an interprovincial passenger vehicle and a truck travelling in the opposite direction.

According to available information, all those killed were travelling in the passenger vehicle. The collision left several victims trapped in the wreckage.

The exact causes of the accident have not yet been officially established, and the authorities are expected to provide further information as investigations continue.

President Daniel Chapo expressed sorrow over the deaths and extended condolences to the victims’ families.

“At this moment of pain and consternation,” the Head of State said he shared the families’ suffering over the “irreparable loss of human lives”, according to a statement issued by the Presidency.

Chapo also expressed solidarity with those injured and wished them a swift and full recovery.

In the same message, the President urged motorists and other road users to strictly comply with traffic regulations, particularly speed limits, road signs and the prohibition of driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances that may impair driving ability.

He also called for greater caution and responsibility on the roads, stressing that preventing road accidents depends on the conduct of all road users.

Authorities are expected to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and provide further updates on the victims.
