The new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Sustainable Development Fund (FNDS), Dino Foi, has decided to waive his salary and several benefits associated with the position, according to the newspaper Canal de Moçambique.
Dino Foi took over the leadership of the FNDS in July, replacing Cláudio Borges, who had headed the institution since 2020.
According to Canal de Moçambique, the new chairman decided to perform his duties without receiving the monthly salary and allowances normally attached to the position.
He also declined the purchase and allocation of a new official vehicle.
According to estimates cited by the newspaper, the purchase of a new vehicle could have cost the FNDS around 6 million meticais.
Dino Foi has also reportedly chosen to continue living in his own home instead of benefiting from an official residence or a housing allowance.
The measures are being presented as part of an effort to reduce institutional spending and strengthen financial discipline.
Canal de Moçambique also reports that the new FNDS leadership intends to commission an external audit of the institution.
The review is expected to cover strategic projects previously managed by the Fund, including SUSTENTA.
The decision to review the FNDS’s management and projects comes as the new leadership seeks to strengthen internal oversight mechanisms and assess how the institution’s resources have been used.
So far, no details have been released on how long the audit will take or when its findings are expected.
