Five Premier League Clubs Want Geny Catamo

Five Premier League Clubs Want Geny Catamo
By Délio Timane 1 min

Five Premier League clubs are interested in signing Mozambican international Geny Catamo and are monitoring his situation at Sporting, with a possible move in the January transfer window.

According to British outlet TEAMtalk, Newcastle, Brentford, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Aston Villa are all keeping an eye on the 25-year-old winger, who continues to attract interest from English football.

The renewed interest comes after Sunderland tried to sign Geny Catamo during the last transfer window but failed to reach an agreement for his departure from Sporting.

The Portuguese club reportedly demanded around €40 million to negotiate the Mozambican player’s transfer. Geny has a €60 million release clause, which could influence any future negotiations.

Despite the interest from England, the player remained at Alvalade, where he is under contract until June 2029.

Sporting is also reportedly considering offering Geny Catamo a new deal, including a salary increase and a possible contract extension until 2030 or 2031.

Geny joined Sporting in the 2019/20 season from Amora. The Lisbon club acquired 90% of his economic rights for around €2.25 million.

A potential move to England could become one of the biggest transfers involving a Mozambican footballer if one of the interested clubs submits an offer accepted by Sporting.
