Nampula Municipal Council has permanently dismissed Nuno Ibrahimo from his position as director of the Nampula Municipal Sanitation Company (EMUSANA), following irregularities identified in the management of the institution.
The decision was announced by the mayor of Nampula, Luís Giguira, after reviewing evidence related to the case that led to Ibrahimo’s suspension at the end of August.
Nuno Ibrahimo had been accused of using vehicles intended for septic tank cleaning to provide private services in Mogovolas District.
The former director was later detained by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Office on suspicion of improperly receiving 216,500 meticais from two companies whose activities had been linked to environmental pollution in the Mutauanha neighbourhood.
According to the allegations, the money was transferred to a bank account belonging to a company linked to the then director and based in Maputo.
After seven days in detention, Nuno Ibrahimo was released on bail after paying 200,000 meticais.
The former director has maintained his innocence and had expressed his intention to publicly clarify the case.
The mayor of Nampula announced that a public recruitment process will be launched to appoint a new director of EMUSANA.
Luís Giguira also warned that other employees could face disciplinary or legal action if investigations confirm their involvement in the alleged irregularities.
The case involving the disputed payments remains under investigation by the relevant authorities.
