Around 80 Mozambican teachers will take part in technical training in agriculture provided by nine Brazilian institutes as part of a cooperation programme between Mozambique and Brazil.
The initiative is part of the Simplified Action for Strengthening Professional and Technological Education in Mozambique (Bramotec), a programme that has already trained more than 2,000 Mozambican instructors since cooperation began in 2017.
This year’s programme includes teachers in agricultural sciences from 40 educational institutions across Mozambique.
The training will total 140 hours and includes an online component from 14 to 22 September, followed by in-person classes in Brazil from 27 September to 29 October.
Topics covered will include teaching methodologies, agricultural mechanisation, irrigation systems and soil analysis.
Mozambique’s Secretary of State for Technical and Vocational Education, Leo Jamal, said the cooperation aims to transform knowledge into production, productivity, employment, income and improved living conditions for communities.
According to Brazil’s Ministry of Education, the partnership between the two countries has already trained more than 2,000 Mozambican instructors in areas including agricultural sciences, civil construction and interior design.
The in-person activities will take place at federal institutes in the Brazilian states of Amapá, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Paraíba, Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Goiás and Minas Gerais.
The programme aims to strengthen the technical capacity of Mozambique’s vocational schools, improve teacher qualifications and deepen cooperation between Mozambique and Brazil in technical and vocational education.
