The Bazaruto Archipelago is set to receive a new tourism project from Singita, an African luxury hospitality and ecotourism group, with its first property planned for Santa Carolina Island.
The investment was discussed during a meeting in Maputo between Mozambican President Daniel Chapo and Singita founder and chairman Luke Bailes.
During the meeting, Bailes provided an update on the projects the company is developing in the Bazaruto Archipelago, as well as additional work underway in Inhassoro and Vilankulo.
According to Bailes, the company is already working with architectural teams and continues to prepare the different phases of the investment.
Singita expects to open its first lodge in Mozambique within four years, with Santa Carolina Island serving as the first stage of the group's expansion in the country.
After the Santa Carolina project, the company plans to develop a second tourism property on the northern tip of Bazaruto Island.
“After the Santa Carolina project, we will do a hotel in Bazaruto, on the northern tip of Bazaruto,” Bailes said.
The investment is expected to strengthen Singita's presence in Africa's luxury tourism sector, where the group already operates in South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Botswana.
Singita's model combines high-end hospitality, biodiversity conservation and engagement with local communities, with a focus on protecting and promoting Africa's natural destinations.
