ANAMOLA Changes Secretary-General and Appoints James Njiji

ANAMOLA has appointed James Njiji as interim secretary-general, replacing Messias Uarreno, who was removed from the position after about a year in office.
The decision was taken by party president Venâncio Mondlane and is expected to be formally endorsed by ANAMOLA’s National Council.
According to party spokesperson Alberto Manhique, the leadership change is part of an internal reorganisation taking place amid what the party describes as “political pressure”.
“It is a normal process and, as everyone knows, we are under political pressure. The party must organise itself in the best possible way to face the challenges of the moment,” Manhique said.
He added that Uarreno remains a senior member of ANAMOLA and said there were no internal disputes linked to his replacement.
With Njiji’s appointment, ANAMOLA has now had three different people serving as secretary-general since the party was established.
The party also confirmed Alberto Manhique as its spokesperson, saying the changes are intended to strengthen its internal organisation.
At the same event, ANAMOLA denounced alleged cases of kidnapping, persecution and killing of its members in different parts of Mozambique, including a recent case in Inhambane Province.
The party called on state institutions to clarify the circumstances surrounding the reported incidents and said citizens’ freedoms must be protected under a democratic rule of law.
