Tete: Business Leaders Want Greater Access to Major Projects

The concern was raised during a meeting between the private sector and the President of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), Álvaro Massingue.

According to the business community, many Mozambican companies still face difficulties in accessing opportunities linked to local content, particularly in supply chains and service provision.

The private sector believes that major projects operating in Tete could create more opportunities for national companies if better conditions are put in place to support their participation.

Among the main challenges are the technical and operational requirements imposed by large companies, which many local firms still struggle to meet.

For this reason, business leaders are calling for more training and capacity-building so that companies in Tete can meet required standards and compete for contracts on better terms.

Another concern raised during the meeting was delayed payments by the State for services already provided.

According to the business community, outstanding payments from public institutions affect companies’ cash flow, make it harder to cover expenses and limit their ability to invest and expand.

Álvaro Massingue acknowledged the importance of strengthening local content and called for better preparation of national companies so they can take advantage of opportunities created by major projects.

The CTA President also addressed difficulties linked to the decision to process some United States visa applications in South Africa, which he said is beginning to affect Mozambican businesspeople who need to travel for work.

The meeting was also used to gather the main concerns of businesspeople in Tete, which the CTA is expected to raise in its dialogue with the Government.
