A RENAMO official was shot dead on Wednesday night in Inhaminga, Sofala Province, prompting the party to call for an urgent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The victim was Pesado Prasquiva Alfinete, a retired brigadier, former combatant and figure linked to RENAMO in Sofala.
According to the party, Alfinete was shot inside his home in Inhaminga.
RENAMO condemned the killing and called on the authorities to clarify the case as quickly as possible and identify those responsible.
The party described his death as an irreparable loss to his family, its members and the organisation.
So far, no official information has been released regarding suspects, arrests or possible motives for the killing.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances of the death and determine the motive behind the attack.
