EDM Brings Customer Services to Maputo Neighbourhoods

EDM Brings Customer Services to Maputo Neighbourhoods
By Hemerson Chiziane 2 min

Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) is bringing its customer services closer to communities through a mobile initiative that allows residents to submit complaints, requests and other concerns directly in their neighbourhoods.

The initiative is taking place in the Polana Caniço neighbourhood in Maputo City and will run for three days.

According to EDM, the programme aims to make it easier for customers to interact with the company and allow some problems to be resolved on site.

“We will be here from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with our technicians available to assist customers and members of the public. Even those who do not have electricity can come forward and present their questions and concerns,” said EDM representative Elsa Prata da Silva.

She added that customers with complaints that have not yet been resolved by the company can also use the mobile service.

“We have a technical team here ready to respond to these situations,” she said.

The service is being provided at the 7 de Abril sports field in Polana Caniço, where residents can raise issues related to electricity supply, public lighting and other services provided by EDM.

One resident, for example, requested the installation of a streetlight in an area considered unsafe at night.

“There is a place where young people gather, smoke and rob people. But with a streetlight, I think the situation could improve,” the resident said.

EDM says simpler problems may be resolved immediately, while cases requiring more detailed technical assessment will be taken up for further follow-up.

“The issues we can resolve in a timely manner will be addressed. Those requiring a more detailed assessment will be taken with us, with the expectation that they will be resolved as quickly as possible,” Prata da Silva said.

EDM expects to serve around 300 customers during the three-day initiative.
