Cape Verde: Prices Fall as Cost of Living Shows Signs of Easing

The cost of living in Cape Verde showed signs of easing in August, as consumer prices recorded a slight decline and inflation continued to slow.
According to data from Cape Verde’s National Institute of Statistics (INE), consumer prices fell by an average of 0.1% in August compared with July.
Despite the monthly decline, prices remained 0.8% higher than in the same month of 2025.
Average inflation over the past 12 months stood at 1.3%, down from 1.5% recorded in July.
In practical terms, the figures show that prices are still higher than they were a year ago, but the pace of increase has slowed.
Since the beginning of 2026, the cumulative change in consumer prices has remained at 0%, significantly below the increase recorded during the same period last year.
Core inflation, which excludes products more vulnerable to sharp price fluctuations, such as energy and some food items, also stood at 0.8%.
The latest figures point to a gradual stabilisation in Cape Verde’s cost of living, as pressure on consumer prices has continued to ease in recent months.
