The Maputo City Juvenile Court began the trial on Thursday, 15 October, of a 12-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing his 13-year-old friend and neighbour in the Zona Militar neighbourhood of Mozambique's capital, following an alleged dispute after a football match.

The incident dates back to 5 October, when the two minors reportedly became involved in an argument following a football game. According to Mozambican newspaper O País, the disagreement allegedly arose after the accused boy's team lost the match, leading to a violent confrontation.

The first court hearing began at 9:00 a.m. and continued until shortly after 2:30 p.m. Proceedings were held behind closed doors, with access restricted to the minors' legal representatives, while other interested parties waited outside the courtroom.

According to the victim's family, the accused boy was the first to give evidence before the court, answering questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Representatives of both minors were also heard during the session, while additional witnesses who reportedly witnessed the incident at the football ground are
