The information was disclosed by the Secretary of State for Gaza province, Jaime Neto, in statements to the newspaper O País, published on Sunday, 25 October. According to the official, several of the main obstacles that had prevented the company from operating are being resolved, creating conditions for a gradual resumption of activities.
In addition to the acquisition of tugboats, construction work has been completed on facilities designed to accommodate various government services at the Port of Chongoene, an infrastructure considered strategically important for the transportation and export of heavy mineral sands produced in the province.
Disheng's suspension of operations resulted from several operational challenges, including damage caused by flooding, fires that affected two processing plants and an insufficient electricity supply. These difficulties disrupted production capacity and prevented the company from maintaining regular operations.
Another major challenge concerns mineral exports. According to Jaime Neto, transporting small quantities of heavy mineral sands through the Port of Maputo is not economically viable, making it necessary to establish an alternative logistics solution capable of handling larger export volumes.
The provincial government expects that the resumption of exports will enable Disheng to restore its revenue-generating capacity and address demands from local communities, particularly regarding compensation payments and participation in community development projects.
The potential restart of operations would also represent a step towards recovering mining activity in the region, although it remains dependent on resolving the logistical and operational challenges that have affected the company's activities in recent months.
