According to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic, this will be Daniel Chapo's first participation in the Russia-Africa Summit, a dialogue platform designed to deepen political, economic and strategic relations between the Russian Federation and African countries.
During the summit, Heads of State are expected to adopt three documents: the Declaration of the Third Russia-Africa Summit, the 2027–2029 Action Plan and the Declaration on Cooperation in the Peaceful Use of Artificial Intelligence Technologies.
On the sidelines of the summit, Daniel Chapo is scheduled to meet with Vladimir Putin, as well as representatives of major Russian companies and members of the Mozambican community living in Russia.
The visit forms part of Mozambique's efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with Russia and explore new opportunities for economic, commercial and technological cooperation, particularly in sectors considered strategic to national development.
In July, during a visit to Maputo, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed Moscow's willingness to deepen cooperation with Mozambique in energy, agriculture, transport, logistics, mineral resources and digitalisation, including support for efforts to combat terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
On that occasion, the two countries also expressed interest in identifying concrete investment projects and expanding professional training opportunities for Mozambican nationals through cooperation programmes and scholarships.
The third Russia-Africa Summit follows previous meetings held in Sochi in 2019 and St Petersburg in 2023 and aims to consolidate cooperation mechanisms between Moscow and the African continent.
The Mozambican delegation will include First Lady Gueta Selemane Chapo and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Lucas; Mineral Resources and Energy, Estevão Pale; Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe; and Economy, Basílio Muhate.
Mozambique's participation in the summit represents an opportunity to deepen dialogue with Russia, diversify international partnerships and identify new areas of investment that could contribute to the country's economic development.
