Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Maria Manuela Lucas said the visit aims to deepen the existing General Cooperation Agreement between the two countries and open the way for new areas of partnership.
Among the instruments expected to be signed is a memorandum of understanding on political consultations, a mechanism that, according to the minister, had not existed since diplomatic relations were established between Mozambique and the Republic of Congo.
The two countries also intend to sign a visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
“We are starting only with diplomatic and service passports, which we also did not have. Afterwards, we will work on the other passports,” Maria Manuela Lucas said.
The cooperation agenda also includes higher education, culture and the arts, tourism, maritime affairs and mining.
Mozambique and Congo also intend to deepen dialogue in the hydrocarbons and forestry sectors, with particular emphasis on the miombo forest.
Daniel Chapo is on a two-day visit to the Republic of Congo at the invitation of Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso.
According to the Mozambican Presidency, the visit is intended to strengthen the ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, social and cultural fields.
During the visit, Daniel Chapo is expected to hold meetings with Congolese authorities to review bilateral relations and identify new opportunities for cooperation between Mozambique and the Republic of Congo.
