Venâncio Mondlane Announces New Trial Date

Venâncio Mondlane Announces New Trial Date
By Isabel Dalciana 1 min

Venâncio Mondlane has announced that his trial before Mozambique’s Supreme Court has been rescheduled for 17 November 2026, following the postponement of the hearing initially set for 6 October.

The postponement followed a request from the defence, which cited scheduling conflicts.

Mondlane announced the new date on his official Facebook page, stating that the trial will take place on 17 November.

The politician also raised the issue of live broadcasting of the hearing. His defence has requested that the trial be broadcast in full on television, radio and digital platforms, but so far there has been no official confirmation that the Supreme Court has authorised live coverage.

The case is related to the post-election protests of 2024.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has charged Venâncio Mondlane with five offences, including public advocacy of crime, incitement to collective disobedience, public instigation to commit a crime, instigation of terrorism and incitement to terrorism.

The charges will be considered by the court during the trial.

With the new date set, the trial is expected to begin on 17 November at the Supreme Court, while it remains unclear whether the proceedings will be broadcast live.
