Mozambican musician Stewart Sukuma will represent Mozambique at the 8th edition of the Arts and Culture Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in Macau, where he has been announced as one of the event's main performers, according to the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau.
The artist is scheduled to perform on 14 November at the Macao Cultural Centre, where he will share the stage with the Macao Chinese Orchestra in a concert aimed at promoting musical and cultural exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
Recognised as one of Mozambique's most award-winning musicians and a leading promoter of marrabenta, Stewart Sukuma has built an international career that includes tours across Africa, Europe, Asia, the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Throughout his artistic career, Sukuma has contributed to promoting Mozambican music internationally, both as a solo performer and with his band, Nkhuvu, bringing the country's traditional rhythms to audiences around the world.
His participation was announced by Leong Wai Man, President of the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, during a press conference presenting the programme for the 8th edition of the Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
According to Leong Wai Man, this year's event features a diverse programme, with particular emphasis on strengthening cultural exchanges between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
The festival will bring together artists and cultural groups from several Portuguese-speaking countries and different regions of China, with performances scheduled at various venues across Macau.
One of the programme's main attractions is the 29th edition of the Lusofonia Festival, which will take place from 23 to 25 October at the Taipa Houses, bringing together cultural expressions from Portuguese-speaking countries.
The programme also includes traditional music and dance performances in different neighbourhoods, exhibitions of illustrated books in Chinese and Portuguese, reading promotion activities and creative workshops for families.
In addition to Stewart Sukuma's performance, the festival will feature dance groups from Equatorial Guinea and Timor-Leste, as well as presentations of traditional Mozambican musical instruments.
Organisers have not yet announced the full list of participating artists and groups.
Stewart Sukuma's participation represents another opportunity to promote Mozambican music in Asia and strengthen cultural ties between Mozambique, China and other Portuguese-speaking countries.
