United Russia, the party associated with President Vladimir Putin, won Russia’s parliamentary elections held between 18 and 20 September, securing around 57.5% of the vote, according to the first official results released by the Central Election Commission.
The preliminary figures were based on around 14% of ballots counted. The result refers to voting through party lists, which determine half of the 450 seats in the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament.
The Communist Party of the Russian Federation came second with around 13.7% of the vote, followed by the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia with 9.3%. The New People party received approximately 8%, while A Just Russia secured more than 5%.
These were Russia’s first parliamentary elections since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. United Russia already held a large majority in the State Duma before the vote.
