Millennium bim has argued that responses to social challenges in Mozambique should be built around the concrete needs of communities, through partnerships that combine resources, knowledge and local experience.
The position was presented during the Partnership Dialogue Workshop organised by ChildFund Mozambique, which brought together representatives from the Government, the United Nations, the private sector, civil society and academia.
During the roundtable discussion under the theme “Partnerships that Generate Impact: Locally Led Solutions for Children in Mozambique”, the bank shared its experience in initiatives focused on education, health and financial literacy.
According to Christine Ramela, Director of Institutional Communication and Corporate Social Responsibility at Millennium bim, a partnership can only produce sustainable impact when it starts from the problems identified by the communities themselves.
“A partnership creates real impact when it does not begin with what an institution wants to offer, but with what communities actually need,” she said.
Ramela added that, beyond financial resources, organisations should combine capacities, knowledge and different perspectives to develop solutions that continue to deliver results even after the support period ends.
Among the initiatives presented was the construction of three classrooms and the donation of 150 desks to Matola-Sede Primary School, in response to needs identified within the school community.
In the health sector, Millennium bim highlighted support provided to neonatal care units through the supply of equipment and materials aimed at improving care for newborns.
The bank also presented the development of a Digital Financial Literacy Manual, created in partnership with a civil society organisation, covering topics such as money management, savings, responsible borrowing and the safe use of digital financial services.
During the meeting, Millennium bim also argued that partnerships should establish clear objectives, shared responsibilities and mechanisms to monitor results from the outset.
The institution further considers it essential to involve communities in defining priorities and designing solutions, in order to ensure that projects respond to local realities and remain sustainable.
For Millennium bim, the private sector’s contribution to addressing social challenges goes beyond financing and also includes knowledge, mobilisation capacity and direct participation in developing solutions together with other stakeholders.
