Medis Registers Shares on the Mozambique Stock Exchange

Medis Registers Shares on the Mozambique Stock Exchange
By Délio Timane 2 min

Medis Technology Company has registered its shares with the Central Securities Depository, taking a step towards complying with rules applicable to companies involved in partnerships with the State and economic concessions.

The announcement was made in Maputo by João Rodrigues, an adviser to the Mozambique Stock Exchange, who said that around 100 public limited companies are expected to register their shares.

According to Rodrigues, by May 2026, 14 new companies had already registered with the Central Securities Depository, representing a significant increase compared with registrations recorded in previous years.

Mozambican legislation provides mechanisms aimed at increasing the participation of national investors in large-scale projects, public-private partnerships and economic concessions.

According to the Stock Exchange official, certain companies are required, after several years of operation, to make between 5% and 20% of their share capital available to Mozambican investors through the stock market.

Rodrigues said Medis’ registration represents an important step in this process, as the technology company has a public-private partnership with the Mozambique Tax Authority as well as an economic and services concession.

“For 15 years, we had nothing. After 15 years, for the first time, a public-private partnership is being admitted to the stock exchange. This is the case of Medis,” he said.

The Mozambique Stock Exchange argues that companies covered by the legislation, as well as their shareholders, must comply with the requirement to register their shares with the Central Securities Depository.

According to the Exchange, bringing more companies into the capital market could increase transparency, improve corporate governance and create more opportunities for Mozambican investors to participate in major businesses.

The process could also include banks, insurance companies, mobile network operators, mobile money providers, seed companies and other businesses considered important to the economy.

Other benefits identified by the Stock Exchange include greater visibility for companies, stronger market confidence and an improved ability to attract investment.

Rodrigues was speaking on the sidelines of the second edition of the FUNDEC Economic Outlook, a forum dedicated to analysing Mozambique’s economic and business environment.
