Mambinhas Thrash Mauritius 5-0 at COSAFA U-20

Mozambique’s Under-20 national football team, known as the Mambinhas, thrashed Mauritius 5-0 on Tuesday in their third and final Group A match of the COSAFA U-20 Cup.
The match, played at ABB Tchumene, was dominated by Mozambique, who needed a positive result to keep their hopes of progressing to the next stage of the competition alive.
Cuna was the standout performer, scoring three of Mozambique’s five goals and earning the Man of the Match award. Machel and Rizan scored the other two goals for the national side.
With the victory, the Mambinhas completed the group stage with two wins and one defeat. Mozambique opened the tournament with a 4-0 victory over Seychelles before losing 1-0 to Namibia.
The national team therefore finished its three group-stage matches with nine goals scored and only one conceded.
Despite the emphatic victory over Mauritius, Mozambique’s qualification for the next stage was not immediately guaranteed. The Mambinhas must wait for results from the other groups to determine whether they can progress as one of the best second-placed teams.
Mozambique’s participation in the COSAFA U-20 competition is particularly important as the tournament is also linked to qualification for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Following the victory over Mauritius, the Mambinhas must now wait for the remaining results to determine their future in the competition.
