Typhoon Dujuan is approaching Japan’s coast, bringing heavy rain and strong winds and increasing the risk of flooding and landslides in several parts of the country.
Japan’s Meteorological Agency warned that weather conditions could worsen rapidly this Monday, 21 September, particularly in the Kanto region, which includes the capital, Tokyo.
In the Izu Islands, south of Tokyo, rainfall has already exceeded 300 millimetres in some areas. Authorities have issued warnings over the risk of landslides on Oshima Island, located about 110 kilometres from the Japanese capital.
Authorities are also concerned about the possible formation of intense rain bands, which could bring large amounts of rainfall within a short period and increase the risk of flash floods.
