A 16-year-old motorcycle taxi driver who had been missing for about two weeks in Hókwè, Chókwè district, Gaza Province, has been found dead under circumstances that have yet to be clarified.
The teenager’s disappearance had already caused tension in the community after a 34-year-old man was allegedly found in possession of the motorcycle used by the young driver.
Following the development, residents demanded that the suspect be handed over to them, a situation that led to unrest and culminated in the burning of a police post in Hókwè.
Because of the public agitation, authorities transferred the suspect to Chibuto in an attempt to prevent further confrontations and ensure his safety.
The teenager’s body was found on Saturday, but the circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been officially explained.
Police are expected to comment on the case and provide further details on the investigation.
So far, no official information has been released on the cause of death or on any possible responsibility of the man who was allegedly found in possession of the teenager’s motorcycle.
