Frelimo has condemned the killings of members of opposition parties and called for the cases to be investigated and clarified by the competent authorities, while appealing for calm and warning against the politicisation of the incidents.
The position was presented by Gonçalves Gemusse, a member of Frelimo’s Central Assistance Brigade for Sofala Province, during a press conference.
According to Gemusse, incidents occurring within communities should not automatically be attributed to Frelimo or government authorities before the facts have been established.
The official said the party trusts the justice authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the killings and determine any responsibilities.
Gemusse added that acts of violence have not affected only opposition members and called for restraint in addressing the situation, arguing that the facts should be handled by the competent institutions.
The statements were made during activities carried out by Frelimo’s Central Assistance Brigade in Sofala Province.
