The meeting, held in Maputo, brought together the Heads of Mission of the European Union and its Member States in Mozambique and marked their first institutional engagement with Felisberto Navalha since his appointment to lead the central bank.
According to the European Union, the meeting provided an opportunity to congratulate the new Governor on taking office and to discuss the role of the Bank of Mozambique in the implementation of economic reforms, as well as the continuation of dialogue between the two sides.
The meeting comes at a time when Mozambique is seeking to strengthen macroeconomic stability, improve the economic environment and create conditions to stimulate investment and private-sector growth.
In this context, the Bank of Mozambique plays a central role through the conduct of monetary policy, inflation control, supervision of the financial system and measures aimed at preserving the stability of the national currency.
The meeting also addressed prospects for cooperation between the Bank of Mozambique and the European Union, with an agenda that includes institutional reforms, private-sector development and the promotion of more inclusive economic growth.
The European Union remains an important development and economic cooperation partner for Mozambique through various programmes and support instruments.
For Felisberto Navalha, the meeting comes at the beginning of a mandate marked by challenges related to price stability, the functioning of the foreign exchange market, financing of the economy and confidence in the financial system.
Both sides expressed their interest in maintaining channels of dialogue and cooperation as Mozambique continues to implement its economic reforms.
