By Hemerson Chiziane 1 min

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has appointed Edson da Graça Francisco Macuácua as the new Minister of Education and Culture, replacing Samaria dos Anjos Filemon Tovela, who was dismissed from her position.

The decision was announced on Wednesday, 14 October, through a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic, which also confirmed changes in the leadership of the Secretariat of State for Science and Higher Education.

Before his appointment, Edson Macuácua served as Secretary of State for Science and Higher Education, a position that will now be held by Isaú Joaquim Menezes, who was also appointed by the Head of State.

The changes form part of a series of presidential decisions affecting the leadership of two government institutions responsible for education and higher education in Mozambique.

The appointments and dismissal were formalised through presidential decrees, in accordance with the powers granted to the President of the Republic under the Mozambican Constitution.

Edson Macuácua holds a doctorate in Law and is a university lecturer, with an academic background in Public Law and Public Administration, according to biographical information published by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
