Mozambican President Daniel Chapo is travelling to Brazil to attend the 2026 Oil and Gas Forum in Rio de Janeiro before heading to New York, United States, where he will participate in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In Brazil, Chapo will be the keynote speaker at the forum, which brings together representatives of the international energy industry under the theme “Energy Evolution for the Future.”
Mozambique’s participation in the event aims to strengthen cooperation with Brazil in oil and gas exploration, particularly in deep waters, while seeking new investment opportunities and knowledge-sharing partnerships.
According to Mozambique’s ambassador to Brazil, Alexandre Manjate, Brazil’s experience in offshore exploration could be relevant to Mozambique, given similarities in the location of some hydrocarbon resources.
The forum brings together companies and representatives from the energy sector to discuss oil, gas, energy transition, sustainable development and new investment opportunities.
Chapo’s participation is also expected to provide an opportunity to showcase Mozambique’s potential in the hydrocarbons sector and seek new international partnerships.
After completing his agenda in Brazil, the President will travel to New York to take part in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During his stay in the United States, Chapo is expected to participate in the General Debate and other high-level meetings on the sidelines of the Assembly.
According to the Presidency, the President’s participation in the two events is part of Mozambique’s efforts to strengthen international cooperation and contribute to discussions on energy, sustainable development and other major global challenges.
