The invitation was made in Rio de Janeiro during the opening of the 2026 Rio Oil and Gas Forum, organised by the Brazilian Institute of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels.
In his address, Chapo said Mozambique is seeking investment that goes beyond the extraction and export of oil and gas. The Government wants projects to also promote technology transfer, professional training and greater participation by Mozambican companies in the sector’s value chain.
“Today, the challenge of our generation is to add a new dimension to this bridge: energy, technology, investment and prosperity for our peoples,” the President said.
Chapo presented Brazilian investors with Mozambique’s natural gas potential, estimated at around 180 trillion cubic feet, of which approximately 133 trillion cubic feet are considered recoverable.
The Head of State also highlighted major projects in the Rovuma Basin, including Coral South, Coral North, Mozambique LNG and Rovuma LNG, arguing that these investments should help transform the national economy and retain more value within the country.
According to Chapo, gas should not be used only for exports but also to support industry, agriculture, fertiliser production and job creation.
“We want to transform these resources into industry, knowledge, companies, jobs and opportunities,” he said.
The President also called for greater participation by Mozambican companies in energy projects through partnerships with foreign investors, professional training and technology transfer.
Chapo highlighted the growing cooperation between Mozambique’s National Hydrocarbons Company and Petrobras as an opportunity to deepen energy ties between Mozambique and Brazil.
The Government is also preparing a new round of areas for hydrocarbon exploration and production, supported by improved geological and geophysical information and a modernised regulatory framework.
Addressing Brazilian investors, Chapo called for long-term partnerships capable of transforming Mozambique’s energy resources into productive capacity, knowledge and economic opportunities for the country.
