Chakil Aboobacar Urges FRELIMO Officials to Avoid Personal Grandstanding

According to Aboobacar, some party members tend to forget that the positions they hold also result from the support of the party structure, warning against taking individual credit for achievements that he considers the result of collective effort.

The FRELIMO Secretary-General argued that officials should recognise the party’s role in the exercise of their responsibilities and avoid turning public or party positions into instruments of personal promotion.

“You should not be afraid or reluctant to say that these achievements belong to the FRELIMO Government. He would not have been able to do this alone. He is doing it with the support of FRELIMO,” Aboobacar said.

According to the party official, the authority exercised by leaders also derives from the organisation and structures of FRELIMO and should therefore not be presented solely as the result of individual merit or ability.

Aboobacar called on FRELIMO members to strengthen teamwork, internal unity and party cohesion, placing collective interests above personal considerations.

“Let us work together. Let us work in unity. Let us consolidate FRELIMO’s strength. Let us stop individualism, personal interests and self-promotion. It does not work,” he said.

The Secretary-General added that measures considered necessary to preserve the organisation’s unity and cohesion should be taken, even when they require internal sacrifices.

Aboobacar also argued that the interests of the party organisation and the population should remain central to the conduct of its leaders.

He concluded by calling particularly on FRELIMO’s provincial leaders to prioritise teamwork and collective action over personal prominence.
