Three Mozambican Human Trafficking Victims Return Home

Three Mozambican Human Trafficking Victims Return Home
By Osvaldo 2 min

Three Mozambican citizens who fell victim to human trafficking in the Central African Republic have returned home following several weeks of diplomatic efforts involving authorities from both countries and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The victims have been in Manica Province, their home region, since Thursday, 8 October.

According to Mozambique's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the repatriation was made possible through coordination between the Mozambican Government, Central African authorities and the IOM, which ensured the identification, protection and safe return of the victims.

The three citizens were part of an initial group of 14 Mozambicans identified in connection with the case. Of these, seven managed to return to Mozambique on their own, while four remain missing.

Mozambican authorities, working alongside the IOM and the Government of the Central African Republic, are continuing efforts to locate the four missing citizens and secure their safe return.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation stated that, since becoming aware of the situation, the Government has been using diplomatic channels to monitor the case and ensure the protection of the affected citizens.

The Government also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the IOM and other international organisations to address migration-related challenges, including protecting Mozambican nationals facing vulnerable circumstances abroad.

The case remains under investigation and diplomatic follow-up as authorities continue their efforts to establish the whereabouts of the four missing Mozambicans.
